Spider Treats

Any size real spider freaks me out, but I could eat an entire plate of these spider treats
I'm sharing two versions of spider cookies.  For both versions you will need thin black licorice and candy eyes.

Double Stuff Oreo Spiders: Cut the licorice into legs and place in between each cookie.  The double stuff cookies make this a little easier.  After you have your legs in use a little frosting and place the eyes.

Homemade Oreo Spiders:  I don't even really like chocolate, but homemade Oreos are my weakness.

Here is the homemade Oreo recipe I have been using since college.

Ingredients:
2 boxes of Devils Food Cake Mix
4 Eggs
2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Grease cookie sheet.
Step 3: Combine Devils Food Cake Mix, Eggs, and Vegetable Oil until mixed together.
Step 4: Using hands roll dough into balls and place on cookie sheet.
Step 5: Bake for 8-10 minutes.
Step 6: Remove from heat and let cookies cool.
Step 7: You can make your own frosting for the filling, but I always just use the Cream Cheese frosting from the grocery store.

Place frosting on cookie then cut the licorice into legs.  I cut them a little too long on a few of the spiders.  Place the legs on top of the frosting, then place the other cookie on top.  Use a little frosting to place the eyes.

You can use either type of spider cookie to make a spider cake.

Spider Cake:
I just used a box mix for the cake below.  I used some food coloring to die vanilla frosting orange and purchased pre-packaged orange decorative frosting for the embellishments around the bottom of the cake.  I free handed the web with black gel frosting.  Then I placed the spider for an easy spider cake.
